and lasting influence on the commercial ice industry. In the early
1800’s, Flint, Peabody and Company arrived, their ships laden with
pristine east coast frozen water from Boston. The ice traveled
around the Cape Horn, unloaded at San Francisco ports and carefully
stored in sawdust to preserve the product through the summer.
While modern technology has improved
the production and storage of packaged ice, our mission remains the
